There was a definite shift in the tone, the mood and the style of the calypso in the mid-1940s. This shift took the form of a break-away of the younger generation of calypsonians from the traditional calypso styling. Therefore, one observes the gradual decline of the Kalinda style of calypso which calypsonians such as Lord Invader still sang. During this period, calypsoes based on wit started to gain more traction.  These calypsoes were meant to entertain, to awaken laughter in an audience. One also sees a greater degree of invention of plot, as showcased by the Mighty Spoiler and his songs.
